Welcome
Cork Childrens Chorus is a chorus of some 100 children
aged between 10 and 17 years hailing from Cork City and County.
Members of the Chorus meet every Saturday during term time
with each session affording the children vocal training, music
education, social contact, and cultural experience. Interdisciplinary
workshops which further support and contribute to the artistic
programme are held during school holidays.
Cork Children's Chorus follows an artistic programme which
includes Youth Opera productions, concert and staged performances,
recordings, residencies, opportunities for cultural exchange,
and many, many social events.
Cork Childrens Chorus promotes an equality of access
to artistic opportunities among Cork communities. Members
of the Chorus contribute €120 per annum towards its running
costs. In addition families and friends are asked to further
support the Chorus by giving of their time.
Cork Children's Chorus members are selected from its specially
devised workshop-audition process and together represent a
broad cross section of musical, social and cultural backgrounds.
To date the Cork Children s Chorus workshop-audition
process has given over one thousand children from Cork city
and county the opportunity of working with the Cork Childrens
Chorus team.
Cork Children's Chorus is a non-profit-making education outreach
programme, developed by Opera Works with support from Cork
City Council, Cork County Council, Culture Ireland, EU-Japan
Fest, and The Arts Council.
Cork Children's Chorus is, for Opera Works, an integrated
part of the company's production resources and a training
ground for future performers, supporters and enthusiasts,
alike.
